TechNote: Record to BLOB

As a developer you may already have faced the need for routines for storing records in Blobs; however, such routines do not exist in 4D. The purpose of this technical note is to describe a technique to address this void.

Why would you store a record in a BLOB?
Many situations can call for that need. Here are a few examples of such situations:

• The record is obsolete but you want to archive a copy before deleting it.
• The record is to be sent to a different database for synchronization purposes.
• The record is used as a 'template' for the creation of new records. The values of the record stored in the BLOB are used as default values when a record is created.
